Dragon Boat Festival

Dragon Boat Festival,  is a folk festival that combines worship of gods and ancestors, praying for blessings to ward off evil spirits, celebrations and entertainment,and eating and drinking. Customs mainly include rowing dragon boats, sacrificing to dragons, picking herbs, driving to the medicine market, hanging moxa and 

calamus, hitting the water at noon, washing the herbal water, sticking the amulet at noon, worshipping the gods and sacrificing to the ancestors, dipping in the water 

of the dragon boat, eating rice on the dragon boat, eating zongzi, fumigating Cangzhu, releasing paper kites, tying five-coloured silk threads, wearing scented pouches 

and so on. As one of the four traditional festivals in China, it not only clearly records the rich and colourful social life and cultural contents of the ancestors, but also 

accumulates profound historical and cultural connotations.

Dragon Boat Festival originated from the worship of heavenly phenomena and evolved from the sacrifice of dragons in ancient times. Midsummer Dragon Boat Festival, 

Canglong seven hosts soared to the centre of the south, as the ‘I Ching’ nine five lines: ‘Flying Dragon in the sky’. Ancient people in the ‘dragon in the sky’ auspicious day 

to worship the dragon ancestor, as well as to hold some festive activities, especially with the ‘dragon’ corresponding to the activities of the elements, such as paddling the 

dragon boat such activities, or to do some of the auspicious day to pray for good luck and ward off evil activities, and so on. The Dragon Boat Festival is the ‘Festival of the 

Dragon’, and the culture of dragons and dragon boats has been passed down through the history of the Dragon Boat Festival.
